DLX - MATTER OF FACT
(Smog)

Nov 16, 2008 by Ric Baker

DLX's production on his drums is a highlight here, as each element of the groove hits as if the tightest drummer was playing them in a perfect recording environment, and then expertly mixed".

Dr. Lazarus X (DLX) presents the listener with this strong and darkly intense dubstep track, the latest from LA's Smog Records. As an exemplary sublow, post-jungle statement, Matter of Facts delivers with a balance of dubby, filtered, electronics, deep swirling ambience, and nuanced syncopated beats. The low-end consists of an ever present foundation of sine wave bass, which pulses brilliantly with the rest of the track. DLX's production on his drums is a highlight here, as each element of the groove hits as if the tightest drummer was playing them in a perfect recording environment, and then expertly mixed.

Breakage's Relatively Speaking Remix is on the flip side and serves as a well crafted counterpoint to DLX's original. Breakage introduces deep and beautiful reverb drenched bass wobbles and a slightly more frantic beat while maintaining the vibe of the A side. This record gives the DJ two powerful tracks for different dance-floor situations, and deserves a spot in any sublow record crate.
